Play station studios mobile division to start operating separately

The play station studios mobile division will operate separately from console game development. As part of Sony’s push into mobile gaming, the PlayStation was formed.

Sony’s forms a mobile gaming division aligns with the company’s overall goal of extending its IP to PC and mobile games, as well as Tv series and movies.

The company announced that it is making a show based on Horizon Zero Dawn with Netflix at an event for investors. Earlier this year, Sony announced that it wants half of its games to be on PC and mobile by 2025 according to a presentation given during the company’s annual investor day.

Sony’s presentation suggests the company is already reaping the benefits of bringing titles like Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone, and God of war to PC, with net sales on the platform more than tripling from $80million last year to a forecast $300million in 2022. With Sony interactive entertainment president Jim Ryan stated that it could result in significant growth in the number of people who play our games.

Sony acquired savage Game studious, whose Co-founders previously worked at Zynga, Insomniac, and War gaming. It doesn’t look like the studio launched any games just yet, but it received $4.4mil for mobile shooter game last year.

The mobile gaming efforts will be similarly additive, providing more ways for more people to engage with our content, and more so major game companies are looking to bring their games to mobile, a tactic that has proved profitable for some studious so far.
