Elon Musk asserts that Neuralink will be prepared to implant chips in people’s brains within the next six months.
On Wednesday, the business had a gathering at the Neuralink corporate office in California. Musk canceled the “show-and-tell” session without giving a reason, which was initially set for October 31.
The brain chip from Neuralink, which is about the size of a penny, includes tiny wires with electrodes woven inside of them that are intended to track brain activity and stimulate the brain electrically. With a robot that the company is also building, Neuralink hopes to implant the chip into a person’s skull.
What functions do neural implants serve?
Essential trembling of the hands, limbs, spine, vocal, and brain is treated with neurological implantation, along with multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, dystonia, and other psychiatric disorders like obsessive-compulsive disorder, nervousness, and despair that don’t respond to medication.
While still a neural implant, Elon Musk’s Neuralink is more sophisticated and electronic. It doesn’t require outside impulses. It is a computer chip the size of a coin. A pig named Gertrude had Elon Musk’s Neuralink installed in her head for two months. With traditional implants, Neuralink has successfully treated human illness.
Neuralink aids in the treatment of brain disorders like Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and spinal cord injury as well as the integration of artificial intelligence with humans. Obtaining federal permission is challenging, thus it might take some time to create the first prototype in a human. However, a monkey was used for testing, and the monkey was successful in using his brain to operate a computer.
Musk showcased the brain-computer interface technology at the event by playing a video of a monkey that appeared to be wearing a Neuralink brain chip. It was claimed that the animal was typing telepathically.
Musk has high hopes for the technology’s use on people. The initial goal of the brain-computer interface is to enable thought-based communication for those with paralyzing disorders. Musk claims that in the future, the business intends to create technology that may, for instance, allow a person with a ruptured spinal cord to regain full physical functionality.
Musk has attempted to introduce Neuralink’s brain implants to people on a number of occasions, but has failed. Musk stated in 2019 that the organization aimed to implant a brain chip into a human patient. Musk asserted that human testing might start in 2020 and that they could continue in early 2021.
The billionaire stated on Twitter following the incident that “we are now sure that the Neuralink device is safe for individuals, thus timing is a function of going through the FDA approval process.”
