What is an SEO Strategy?

SEO strategy is the process of organizing website content by topic to improve its ranking or visibility among search results by search engines like Google, Bing, etc. To be more specific SEO strategy can be said to be the process you execute to maximize the opportunity to reach a particular audience and also gain organic traffic from search engines.

Having a strategy increases the likelihood of performing better at something, that’s why it is also important to have an SEO strategy as it helps to keep track when creating content. When you have an SEO strategy you now begin to ensure you create content to answer the audience’s questions based on what they searching for.

However, when it comes to content marketing, having an SEO strategy is very essential because it is how your content will become visible in search engine result pages (SERPs). When your content is unorganized, search engine bots will find it difficult to index your site, and ranking your site pages all happens in split seconds. There is also another thing you have to consider which is;

Nevertheless, the mobile SEO strategy includes page responsiveness, page speed, local SEO; the location.

SEO Content Strategy

  1. Write out topics
  2. Identify Keywords based on those topics
  3. Set up a blog
  4. Create a Content Schedule
  5. Be up-to-date on SEO trend
  6. Measure your content

1. Write out Topics
You will have to make a list of topics you would love your content to address. The first step is to achieve organic traffic. Compile a list of topics associated with your business or services using an SEO tool such as Google Keyword tool and SEMRush. Use these tools to search for keywords, and identify their search volume.

When you do this, you are associating your topic with popular keywords. For example, let us look at a shoe business trying to get trying to rank for Chelsea boots.

2. Identify Keyword Based on Those Topics.
Firstly, you will need to identify keywords based on your business or services. There is a short tail keyword and a long tail keyword. A short keyword such as Chelsea boot was used in the example earlier. Using Short keywords is not enough, you will need to research more into a long tail keyword.

It is difficult to rank up to popular search engines like Google with short keywords, it is a necessity to research the long tail keywords around your business or services. Use keyword tools to identify up to 10 long-tail keywords that dig deeper into the original topic keyword.

3. Set up a Blog
You will need to create different pages for the website, it is difficult to rank up search engine results with a page as it is next impossible. Creating different topics on different pages the more you have a product to offer which also increases your chance in the search result.

Blogging is a very good way to engage your website’s users. Blogging creates a new page and higher chances to appear on search engine results pages. When creating a blog post you should consider these three things:

  • Don’t include your long tail keyword more than three times throughout your blog post. Too many long-tail keywords can be a red flag to search engines.
  • Always link out to the pillar page you created for your topics. You can do this by adding a link to a text in the body of the article.
  • When you publish a blog post, always link it to the parent pillar page which supports the subtopic. When you do this you are indirectly telling the search engine that there’s a relationship between the long tail keyword.

4. Create a Content Schedule
This is needed to be consistent in creating content. There’s value in writing about topics that solve your customer’s problems as it builds authority with the search engine algorithm. You can start by blogging twice a week and always remember you are blogging for your audience, not for the search engines.

5. Be up-to-date with SEO Trends
The search engine is always evolving, and staying on top of current trends and best practices is an important strategy. Multiple online platform resources can help you do so; Search Engine Land, This Blog, SEOBook, etc.

6. Measure your Content
SEO can be time consuming and needs a lot of effort so I will advise you to track your metrics to understand the success of your overall content strategy. After identifying your possible areas for improvement, you will implement them.
